Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, Hunting Island State Park is a short drive from Best Western Sea Island Inn. The peaceful 5,000-acre park boasts the most popular beach in South Carolina where you can enjoy everything from boating and kayaking to fishing and crabbing. There are ample nature trails for hiking and wildlife viewing, including reptiles, birds, and marine life. You can also take a tour of the onsite historic Hunting Island lighthouse.

    The Hunting Island State Park lighthouse, which is South Carolina’s only lighthouse open to the public, offers a self-guided tour. For a $2.00 fee, you will be able to climb the spiral staircase that is made up of 167 steps. While it seems like a daunting task, it’s definitely worth the effort. Once you reach the coveted top platform, you’ll enjoy a sweeping view of the Atlantic Ocean and marshes that surround the park.
